Waga koi wa ima o kagiri to yūmagure ogi fuku kaze no otozurete yuku - Shin Kokin Wakashu(English Translation & Meaning)

我が恋は今を限りとゆふまぐれ
荻吹く風のおとづれて行く

Roma-ji: Waga koi wa ima o kagiri to yūmagure ogi fuku kaze no otozurete yuku
English Translation: "This love of yours now
has reached its end," it says, as
the dusk comes on and
the wind through the reeds goes by,
sounding, calling, then gone.
Meaning: As if to say that my love has now come to its end, at dusk the wind blowing through the reeds comes rustling by and passes on.
Commentary: Book Fourteen Love Poems IV 1308

Headnote: "For a poetry contest at the house of the Lay Priest, Former Chancellor and Grand Minister."
This is the fifth poem of the sequence on waiting for a lover, sung through the wind. As if to tell me that my love has reached its end, the speaker says, at dusk the wind through the reeds comes sounding and passes on. According to the headnote, it was submitted to a poetry contest held at the house of the Lay Priest, Former Chancellor and Grand Minister.
The author, "Shun'e the Priest," was a son of Minamoto no Toshiyori; he became a priest of Tōdaiji and gathered poets for meetings at his lodging, the Karin'en. He was the poetry teacher of Kamo no Chōmei. "The Lay Priest, Former Chancellor and Grand Minister" in the headnote means a former chancellor and grand minister who had taken holy orders and refers to Kujō Kanezane.

The first line, "waga koi wa," means "my love."
The second line, "ima o kagiri to," means "that now is the end."
The third line, "yūmagure," meaning "dusk," is a pivot word that, following the second line, also carries "iu," to say. "Says it is the end" and "dusk" merge in one word.
The fourth line, "ogi fuku kaze no," takes up "ogi no uwakaze" from the preceding poem.
In the last line, "otozurete yuku," "otozure" is a pivot word meaning both the "sound" of the wind and a person's "visit." In place of a lover's visit, only the wind announcing love's end comes sounding and passes on.
