見てもまたまたも見まくのほしかりし
花の盛りは過ぎやしぬらん

Roma-ji: Mite mo mata mata mo mimaku no hoshikarishi hana no sakari wa sugi ya shinuran
English Translation: Though I'd seen them once,
I longed to see them yet again—
those blossoms in bloom:
has their time of fullest glory
passed already, I wonder?
Meaning: The full bloom of the blossoms, which I longed to see again and again even after seeing them—has it already passed, I wonder?

Headnote: "Topic unknown."
This is the tenth poem of the sequence on the cherry. The poet wonders whether the full bloom of the blossoms, which he longed to see again even after seeing them, has already passed. The headnote reads "topic unknown," and records nothing of the circumstances of composition.
The author, "Fujiwara no Takamitsu," was the son of Minister of the Right Fujiwara no Morosuke. He took the tonsure while young and lived at Yokawa on Mount Hiei before moving to Tōnomine. He is one of the Thirty-Six Poetic Immortals.

The first line, "mite mo mata," means "even having seen them." Overlapping "mata" with "mata mo" of the second line, it expresses the wish to see them again and again.
In the second line, "mata mo mimaku no," "mimaku" is "mimu" with the suffix "ku" attached, meaning "to see."
The third line, "hoshikarishi," uses the past "shi" to mean "that I once longed to see." It shows that the longing for the blossoms' peak is already becoming a thing of the past.
The fourth line, "hana no sakari wa," refers to the season when the blossoms are most beautiful. Following the blossom-viewing poems before it, the blossoms at their peak are sung.
The last line, "sugi ya shinuran," closes the kakari-musubi of the particle "ya" with the attributive form "ran." Guessing that the peak has passed, it moves the sequence from blossoms in full bloom toward blossoms that will soon scatter.
