Misebaya na Shiga no Karasaki fumoto naru Nagara no yama no haru no keshiki o - Shin Kokin Wakashu(English Translation & Meaning)

見せばやな志賀の唐崎麓なる
長等の山の春のけしきを

Roma-ji: Misebaya na Shiga no Karasaki fumoto naru Nagara no yama no haru no keshiki o
English Translation: Would that I could show
Shiga's Karasaki, lying
there at the mountain's foot,
and all of Nagara's heights
in their springtime loveliness!
Meaning: How I wish I could show you the spring scenery of Mount Nagara, with Karasaki of Shiga lying at its foot.

Headnote: "Sent to someone from the Daijōin around springtime."
This is the nineteenth poem of the sequence on the cherry. The poet wishes he could show someone the spring scenery of Mount Nagara, with Karasaki of Shiga at its foot. According to the headnote, it was sent to someone from the Daijōin around springtime.
The author, "Former Archbishop Jien," is Jien. The son of Fujiwara no Tadamichi and younger brother of Kujō Kanezane, he served four times as head of the Tendai school and wrote the historical treatise Gukanshō.
The Daijōin was Jien's lodging on Mount Hiei. Karasaki of Shiga is a famous place in Ōmi on the western shore of Lake Biwa, known for the Karasaki pine. Mount Nagara is also a famous place in Ōmi, the mountain behind Onjōji.

In the first line, "misebaya na," "baya" is a final particle of desire and "na" adds exclamation. The first line declares, "how I wish to show you."
The second line, "Shiga no Karasaki," is a place name on the western shore of Lake Biwa. It presents a famous site facing the lake.
The third line, "fumoto naru," means "lying at the foot," linking Karasaki to Mount Nagara as land at its foot.
The fourth line, "Nagara no yama no," is Mount Nagara, a famous place in Ōmi. Whereas the earlier poems sang of blossoms in the capital or at Yoshino, this poem shifts the scene to the spring of Ōmi seen from Mount Hiei.
The last line, "haru no keshiki o," places the object of "misebaya na" in the first line at the end in inverted order. It seeks to convey to the recipient the whole spring prospect of lake and mountain.
