神風や玉串の葉をとりかざし
内外の宮に君をこそ祈れ

Roma-ji: Kamikaze ya tamagushi no ha o torikazashi uchi to no miya ni kimi o koso inore
English Translation: Divine wind of Ise—
taking up the sacred sprig,
holding high its leaves,
at the Inner and Outer Shrines
it is for you, lord, I pray.
Meaning: In the land of the divine wind, I take up the leaves of the sacred sprig and hold them high, and at the Inner and Outer Shrines it is for you, my lord, that I pray.
Commentary: Book Nineteen Poems on the Gods 1883

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Composed for a hundred-poem sequence at the house of the lay-priest former Regent."
This is the thirteenth poem in the sequence concerning the Great Shrine of Ise. Holding high the leaves of the sacred sprig, the poet prays at the Inner and Outer Shrines for his lord's long life. Like the preceding poem, it was composed for the hundred-poem sequence at the house of the lay-priest former Regent. Picturing a visit to both shrines of Ise, it expresses a prayer for the lasting reign of his lord.
The author, "Shun'e Hōshi," was a son of Minamoto no Toshiyori and a monk of Tōdaiji. He gathered poets at his dwelling, the Karin'en, for poetry meetings.
The third line in the main text reads "torikazashi," which does not match "torikawashi" in the reading line. The main text is followed here.

The first line, "kamikaze ya," is the same as that of the preceding poem and marks the sacred precinct of Ise. Two poems from the same hundred-poem sequence stand together with the same first line.
The second line, "tamagushi no ha o," means "the leaves of the sacred sprig" of sakaki offered before the god.
The third line, "torikazashi," means "taking them up and holding them high."
The fourth line, "uchi to no miya ni," means "at the Inner and the Outer Shrines," naming both shrines of Ise together.
The last line, "kimi o koso inore," means "it is for you, lord, that I pray," closing the particle "koso" with the perfective "inore" in kakari-musubi. "Kimi" is the lord one serves. Where the preceding poem wished for the shrine's permanence, this one prays for the lord's long life.
