The poet pleads with those around him not to blame him for a heart unsettled by love and lost in vague brooding. The gentle rocking of a great ship serves as a preface, and the distinctive sound of yuta no tayuta ni expresses a heart that sways without rest.
First line, "Come now, all of you": ide is an interjection calling out to others, "come now."
Second line, "do not reproach me like this": hito na togame so means "do not blame me," with na ... so expressing prohibition. The poem pauses here.
Third line, "like a great ship": obune, a large ship, leads through its slow rocking to yuta no tayuta ni in the fourth line as a preface.
Fourth line, "rocking to and fro, adrift": yuta no tayuta ni describes a gentle, unsettled swaying, overlaying the rocking ship with the rocking heart. The next poem, 509, also likens an unsettled heart to a float on the sea.
Fifth line, "I am lost in thoughts of love": mono omou koro zo means "for it is a time of brooding," with zo a final particle of firm assertion.
