逢坂の関に流るる岩清水
いはで心に思ひこそすれ

Roma-ji: Ōsaka no seki ni nagaruru iwashimizu iwade kokoro ni omoi koso sure
English Translation: At Osaka's gate
the barrier where it flows
water from the rocks
without a word I love you
in the silence of my heart
Meaning: Like the clear water welling from the rocks at the Osaka Barrier, without saying a word, I love you in my heart.

Headnote: "Topic unknown"
Taking as its preface the clear spring welling from the rocks at the Osaka Barrier, the poem sings of a hidden love that goes on in the heart without being spoken. It leads from iwashimizu, rock spring, to iwade, without saying, through their shared sound, overlaying the clear water flowing quietly among the rocks with a pure love kept secret.

First line, "At Osaka's gate": the same first line as the preceding poem, 536, placing two poems of Osaka side by side.
Second line, "the barrier where it flows": seki ni nagaruru means flowing at the barrier of Osaka.
Third line, "water from the rocks": iwashimizu is clear water welling from between rocks, leading through repeated sound to iwade in the fourth line; lines one through three form a preface.
Fourth line, "without a word I love you": iwade kokoro ni means without saying it, in the heart. Poem 495 of this book uses the same device, leading from "rock azalea" to "not saying."
Fifth line, "in the silence of my heart": omoi koso sure means "I do love," with koso forming a kakari-musubi with sure.
