夢路にも露や置くらむ夜もすがら
通へる袖のひちて乾かぬ

Roma-ji: Yumeji ni mo tsuyu ya okuramu yomosugara kayoeru sode no hichite kawakanu
English Translation: Does dew settle, too,
on the pathway of my dreams?
For all the night long
the sleeves I wore to go to you
are drenched and will not dry.
Meaning: Does dew fall even on the road of dreams? The sleeves I wore as I went to you all night long are soaked and will not dry.

The poet says that he traveled all night in a dream to the beloved, and on waking found his sleeves wet and not drying, so he wonders whether dew settles even on the road of dreams. Through the wit of treating sleeves actually wet with tears as sleeves wet with the dew of the dream road, he expresses the fragility and sorrow of a love that can only meet in dreams.
Ki no Tsurayuki was a poet of the early Heian period, the son of Ki no Mochiyuki. He was the leading compiler of the Kokinshū and wrote its Japanese preface. He served as Governor of Tosa and is also known as the author of the Tosa Diary, which records his journey back to the capital. He is one of the Thirty-Six Poetic Immortals.

First line, "yumeji ni mo": yumeji is the road one travels in dreams. Mo means "on the dream road too, as on real roads." Like "yume no tadaji" in 558 and "yume no kayoiji" in 559 of this book, it sings of the road within dreams.
Second line, "tsuyu ya okuramu": ya is an interrogative binding particle and ramu an auxiliary of present conjecture, taking the attributive form as its resolution. The poem breaks here. The dew is a figure for tears wetting the sleeves.
Third line, "yomosugara": all night long.
Fourth line, "kayoeru sode no": ru is the attributive of the continuative auxiliary ri, meaning the sleeves that kept traveling the dream road.
Fifth line, "hichite kawakanu": hitsu means to be soaked. Nu is the attributive of the negative zu, closing in a form that gives the grounds for the conjecture in the second line.
