厭はるるわが身は春の駒なれや
野飼ひがてらに放ち捨てつる

Roma-ji: Itowaruru waga mi wa haru no koma nare ya nogai gatera ni hanachi sutetsuru
English Translation: This self of mine, spurned,
is it then a colt of spring,
that I have been left
under pretext of grazing
turned loose and cast aside?
Meaning: Am I, whom you despise, a colt in springtime, that you have turned me loose to graze and simply abandoned me?
Commentary: Book Nineteen Miscellaneous Forms 1045

Headnote: "Topic unknown"
The poet, spurned and abandoned, wryly compares himself to a horse turned out to graze in the spring fields. The homely comparison to a horse gives the poem its haikai quality.
The author is unknown and is recorded as "Anonymous."

First line, "Itowaruru," uses the passive "ruru": being despised.
Second line, "waga mi wa haru no," sets the poet alongside a spring image.
Third line, "koma nare ya," asks with "nare ya": is it because I am a colt? "Ya" is answered by the attributive "tsuru" at the end.
Fourth line, "nogai gatera ni," uses "nogai," grazing livestock in open fields, with "gatera," while at it.
Fifth line, "hanachi sutetsuru," is attributive in response to "ya": you let me loose and cast me off.
