美濃の国関の藤川絶えずして
君に仕へむ万代までに

Roma-ji: Mino no kuni seki no fujikawa taezu shite kimi ni tsukaemu yorozuyo made ni
English Translation: In the land of Mino,
the Fujikawa by the Barrier
never ceases so:
I shall serve my lord always,
until ten thousand ages.
Meaning: As the Fujikawa by the Barrier in Mino never stops flowing, so without ceasing I will serve my lord through ten thousand ages.

Headnote: "Kagura Songs: Kaeshimono Song"
Taking the ever-flowing river as its image, the singer vows to serve his lord unchanged for ten thousand ages. Naming a river of the province, it is a daijōe song blessing the lasting reign and pledging loyalty. No author is recorded.
Kaeshimono songs are thought to be songs sung in a changed musical mode within the kagura. They run from poem 1081 to 1086, and from 1082 onward each of the five carries a left-hand note saying it was presented by a province at a Great Thanksgiving Festival (daijōe).
The left-hand note says, "This is the song of Mino at the daijōe of Gangyō," the Great Thanksgiving of Emperor Yōzei, for which Mino Province presented it. The daijōe was the first harvest festival held by a newly enthroned emperor, and the provinces chosen as Yuki and Suki presented songs that named places in their own lands.

The first line, "the province of Mino," names the land that offers the song.
The second line, "the Fujikawa of the Barrier," names the river that flows by the Fuwa Barrier in Mino. The upper two lines form a preface leading to "without ceasing."
The third line, "never ceasing," applies both to the river's flow and to the heart that serves.
The fourth line, "I shall serve my lord," uses mu for intention. The poem breaks here, making the vow plain.
The last line, "until ten thousand ages," shares its ending with the preceding poem, 1083, and overlaps with "so shall we serve until ten thousand ages" in the note to 1069.
