Headnote: "A poem by Ato no Tobira no Otome"
The one she glimpsed only once in the light of the moon crossing the sky now appears in her dreams. A brief meeting she cannot forget is set in a lovely moonlit scene. Like poem 490 and others in this book, it ends with ime ni shi miyuru, "appears in my dreams."
The author, Ato no Tobira no Otome, is a woman of whom little is known.
First line, "Crossing the high sky," uses the honorific mi: the sky through which the moon passes.
Second line, "in the moon's light, only once," means in the moonlight.
Third line, "at a single glance," stresses how brief the meeting was.
Fourth line, "did I see him; that same one," means the one I met.
Fifth line, "now appears within my dreams," ends in the attributive.
