Book Ten Spring Miscellaneous Poems 1882
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "An Outing in the Fields"
This poem wishes that the day spent in the spring fields with like-minded friends would not come to an end. The heart that grieves as happy hours slip away is plainly expressed. It uses the same words "omou dochi" and "kyō no hi" as 1880, so the two poems sing in succession of the joy of the outing.
The first line, "in the spring fields," is hypermetric.
In the second line, "kokoro nobemu to," "nobu" means to let the heart expand and "mu" expresses intention, showing the wish to refresh one's spirit.
The third line, "omou dochi," friends of like mind, is the same as in 1880.
In the fourth line, "koshi kyō no hi wa," "shi" is the attributive form of the past auxiliary "ki." It corresponds to "the day we play" in 1880.
In the last line, "kurezu mo aranu ka," "nu ka" is a negative question expressing a wish, closing with the hope that the day would not end. The line is hypermetric.
