Anklet beads and wrist
beads, jingling as they sway,
the cloth that I weave—
into robes for you, my lord,
can I sew it all in time?
Meaning
The cloth I weave with my anklet and wrist beads jingling—will I be able to finish sewing it into a robe for you?
Commentary
Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2065

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Tanabata"
This poem, in the Weaver's voice, wonders whether she can finish sewing the cloth she weaves, with anklet and wrist beads swaying, into a robe for the Herdsman. The sound of the beads on her ankles and wrists swaying and jingling vividly portrays the Weaver working hard at her loom. Whereas in the preceding poem she had sewn the robe, here she worries whether the sewing will be finished in time, continuing the poems on weaving.

The first line, "anklet beads too," names the ornaments at her ankles.
In the second line, "tadama mo yura ni," "tadama" are wrist beads and "yura ni" describes beads jingling as they touch.
The third line, "the cloth I weave," names the work.
In the fourth line, "kimi ga mikeshi ni," "mikeshi" is an honorific for clothing.
In the last line, "nui mo aemu ka mo," "au" means to finish fully, "mu" is conjecture, and "ka mo" is a question tinged with exclamation.
