The days of longing
are so long, so many days,
tonight, at the least,
should you leave me wanting still,
when it's meant that we should meet?

Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2079
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Tanabata"
This poem pleads that since the days of longing are so long, at least tonight, when they should meet, the speaker not be left unsatisfied. It has nearly the same content as 2017, with slightly changed wording, in a variant-like relationship. The repetition of the same lament suggests how universal the heart grieving the shortness of the Tanabata meeting was.
The first line, "the days of longing," names the span of yearning.
The second line, "kenagaki mono o," though the days are long, is the same as in 2017.
In the third line, "koyoi dani," "dani" means at least: at least tonight.
The fourth line, "tomoshimubeshi ya," should you leave me wanting?, is the same as the fourth line of 2017. The poem breaks here.
In the last line, "aubeki mono o," "mono o" is adversative and exclamatory: though we should meet.
