Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2158
Headnote: "On Crickets"
This poem sings of crickets singing at the roots of the short grass at home as the autumn wind blows cold, and its headnote is "On Crickets." The cold of the autumn wind and the crickets' voices overlap, making the deepening of autumn deeply felt. After the cicada poem, the voices of autumn insects are sung.
The first line, "of the autumn wind," names the wind.
In the second line, "samuku fuku nae," "nae" means along with: as it blows cold.
The third line, "of my dwelling," names the place.
The fourth line, "at the roots of the short grass," names where they sing.
In the last line, "korogi naku mo," "mo" is exclamatory, closing with the insects' voices announcing deepening autumn.
