Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2195
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "On Autumn Leaves"
This poem predicts that, with the geese's cry heard, Mount Kasuga will begin to turn color from tomorrow. In the same construction as the preceding poem, whereas that poem sang of Tatsuta's coloring as happening now, this one predicts Kasuga's coloring for tomorrow, forming a pair that changes place and time.
The first line, "of the wild geese," is the same opening as the preceding poem.
In the second line, "koe kiku nae ni," "nae ni" means along with.
The third line, "from tomorrow," names the time.
The fourth line, "Mount Kasuga," names the mountain.
In the last line, "momichisomenamu," "na" is emphatic and "mu" conjecture: it will surely begin to turn.
