autumn clover, pampas grass,
how they float into my mind!

Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2221
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "On the Paddy Fields"
This poem says that looking at the paddy guarded by the gate brings to mind the autumn bush clover and pampas grass around Saho, and it closes the paddy group. It seems to be someone staying in the countryside for farm work, missing the autumn scenery of Saho near the capital. Like the makeshift hut poems such as 2174, it shows a heart thinking of the capital from a place of farm work.
The first line, "at my gate," names the place.
The second line, "when I see the fields I guard," names the sight.
The third line, "around Saho," is hypermetric; Saho is a place name also seen in 1827 of the spring poems.
The fourth line, "autumn bush clover and pampas grass," names the representative plants of the autumn fields.
In the last line, "omōyuru ka mo," "omōyu" means to come to mind and "ka mo" is exclamatory.
