into jewels, glittering bright,
in the ninth month's time
moonlight lingering at dawn—
though I gaze, I never tire.

Book Ten Autumn Miscellaneous Poems 2229
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "On the Moon"
This poem praises the moonlit dawn of the Ninth Month, which turns the white dew into jewels, saying one never tires of gazing at it, and it closes the moon group. It sings of the beauty of the lingering dawn moon lighting the dew like jewels. Whereas 2168 saw the dew as jewels, this poem says the moonlight made the dew into jewels, binding dew and moon together.
The first line, "the white dew," names what is transformed.
The second line, "made into jewels," shows the moonlight making the dew sparkle.
The third line, "of the Ninth Month," names the time.
The fourth line, "the moonlit dawn," names a night with the moon lingering till daybreak.
The last line, "miredo akanu ka mo," is the set phrase of praise, closing in admiration of the dawn moon.
