Headnote: "Love Expressed Through Cranes"
This poem sings that, like a crane crying as the pre-dawn hours wane, the longing of love does not clear but grows ever stronger. Its headnote is "Love Expressed Through Cranes." The crane's sharp voice ringing in the darkness before dawn symbolizes a longing that will not clear. It shares its last line, "koi koso masare," with 2145, singing of mounting longing.
The first line, "tonight's," is a short line.
The second line, "akatokigutachi," means as the pre-dawn hours pass.
The third line, "like the crane that cries," makes the upper lines a figure for the lower.
In the fourth line, "omoi wa sugizu," "sugu" means for feelings to be spent: the longing does not pass.
In the last line, "koi koso masare," "koso" is an emphatic particle answered by the perfective "masare"; it is the same ending as 2145.
