Book Ten Autumn Love Poems 2287
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love Expressed Through Flowers"
This poem calls on the people of Nara to come quickly and see the bush clover blooming at home before it scatters. It invites people of the Nara capital to view bush clover, showing both regret at the brevity of its peak and longing for their visit. Like 1906 in the spring love poems, which would not let the plum fall until the people of Nara came to see, it sings of a wish to show flowers to people of Nara.
The first line, "of my dwelling," names the place.
In the second line, "hagi sakinikeri," "keri" expresses realization, and the poem breaks here.
The third line, "before they fall," names the urgency.
In the fourth line, "haya kite mibeshi," "beshi" expresses invitation: you should come quickly and see.
The last line, "nara no satobito," people of Nara, closes as an address.
