like the snow that tumbles down,
though I'd melt away,
still to meet with you, my love,
I live on and linger here.

Book Ten Winter Love Poems 2345
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Love Expressed Through Snow"
This poem says that though the speaker may vanish like snow falling from a clouded sky, the single wish to meet the beloved keeps one alive. Whereas 2340 and others lamented feeling about to vanish like snow, this one resolves to live on to meet even so, turning from lament to resolve.
The first line, "amagirai," means clouding the whole sky.
The second line, "like the falling snow," names the comparison.
In the third line, "kename domo," "na" is emphatic, "me" the perfective of "mu," and "domo" adversative: though I may vanish.
The fourth line, "hoping to meet you," gives the purpose.
The last line, "nagaraewataru," means to go on living, closing with the will to live on for a meeting.
