Makenagaku ime ni mo miezu taenu tomo aga katakoi wa yamu toki mo araji

English Translation
For long days on end
though you appear not even in dreams,
though all should be cut off,
this one-sided love of mine
will never find a time to cease
Meaning
Even if for long days you do not appear even in my dreams, and all between us is broken off, my one-sided love will never come to an end.
Commentary
Book Eleven Love Poems Ancient and Modern I 2815

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Questions and Answers"
Even if the beloved does not appear even in dreams for a long time and the bond between them is broken, the speaker answers, this one-sided love will never cease. The poem holds a single-minded resolve to go on loving even without reward.
As the left note "the two poems above" shows, this answering poem forms a pair with the preceding one. It takes up "makenagaku" and "ime ni miezute" as "makenagaku ime ni mo miezu," and to the preceding poem's inconsolable lament it replies that even so, love will not end. Against the preceding poem's "aga koi," my love, this poem says "aga katakoi," my one-sided love, showing that even a love that is not returned will not change.
The author is unknown. The anonymous poems of Book Eleven gather the love poems of people whose names have not come down to us.

First line, "makenagaku": "for many long days." It is the same word as the third line of the preceding poem, taking up the words of the question to begin the answer.
Second line, "ime ni mo miezu": "not appearing even in dreams." "Mo" carries the sense of "not in waking life, nor even in dreams," taking up and strengthening "ime ni miezute" in the preceding poem.
Third line, "taenu tomo": "even if it is broken off." "Nu" is the perfective auxiliary and "tomo" a concessive conditional particle.
Fourth line, "aga katakoi wa": "my one-sided love." "Katakoi" is love felt by one side only, singled out by the particle "wa."
Fifth line, "yamu toki mo araji": "there will be no time it ceases." "Ji" is the auxiliary of negative conjecture, declaring firmly that the love will go on forever.
