- Because of all the gossip I do not go to see my beloved, and these days I long for her only within my heart.

The poem sings of recent days spent loving only within the heart, avoiding the beloved for fear of gossip. It portrays a hidden love that keeps unspoken feelings locked inside.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.
Line one, "hitogoto o," means "the gossip."
Line two, "shigemi to imo ni," means "saying it is too thick, to my beloved."
Line three, "awazu shite," means "without meeting."
Line four, "kokoro no uchi ni," means "within my heart," the same words as in poem 2911 in this book.
Line five, "kouru konogoro," means "these days of longing," ending on a noun.
