Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Expressing Thoughts through Things"
Recalling a vow made as deep as the floor of the great sea, the poet declares there is no room to doubt the beloved's heart. Among many poems of doubt and anxiety, this one expresses firm trust.

Line one, "ōumi no," means "of the great sea."
Line two, "soko o fukamete," means "as deep as its floor," with deep sincerity.
Line three, "musubiteshi," means "the vow we tied."
Line four, "imo ga kokoro wa," means "my beloved's heart."
Line five, "utagai mo nashi," means "there is no doubt," showing trust in their deep vow.
