相見まく欲しきがためは君よりも
我れぞまさりていふかしみする
Roma-ji

Aimimaku hoshiki ga tame wa kimi yori mo ware zo masarite ibukashimi suru

English Translation
When it comes to wanting
to be with you, my love,
more than you,
it is I who fret and pine,
it is I who suffer most
Meaning
When it comes to longing to be together, it is I, more than you, who frets and cannot rest.
Commentary
Book Twelve Dialogue Poems 3106

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Dialogue Poems"
A woman answers the preceding poem, saying that her longing to meet surpasses his. Accepting his lament, she shows the depth of her own feeling.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.

Line one, "aimimaku," means "to meet," "mimaku" being the nominalized form of "mimu."
Line two, "hoshiki ga tame wa," means "as for wishing."
Line three, "kimi yori mo," means "more than you."
Line four, "ware zo masarite," means "I surpass you," with "zo" concluded by the attributive "suru" in line five.
Line five, "ibukashimi suru," means "I fret and cannot rest," answering the man's lament by saying that she longs even more.
