English Translation
Over Anashi,
the mountain at Makimuku,
clouds hang low,
and though the rain is falling,
soaked through, I've come to you
Meaning
Clouds hang over Mount Anashi at Makimuku and the rain is falling, but I have come to you, soaked through.
Commentary
Book Twelve Dialogue Poems 3126

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Dialogue Poems"
A man answers the preceding question: clouds hang over Mount Anashi at Makimuku and the rain falls, yet he has come, soaked through. Sharing its final line with poem 3123 in this book, it shows the sincerity of a man who comes despite the rain, and it closes the section of dialogue poems.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.

Line one, "Makimuku no," refers to the area of Makimuku in Sakurai, Nara Prefecture.
Line two, "Anashi no yama ni," means "on Mount Anashi" at Makimuku.
Line three, "kumo itsutsu," means "with clouds hanging over it."
Line four, "ame wa furedomo," means "though the rain falls."
Line five, "nuretsutsu zo koshi," means "I came, soaked through," the same final line as poem 3123 in this book.
