Book Twelve Poems Lamenting Parting 3209
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Poems Lamenting Parting"
A woman sings that every time she sees the clouds over Mount Mikasa at Kasuga, she thinks of her lover who has gone on a journey. She overlays the drifting clouds with one traveling far, voicing the feelings of one left behind in the capital.
The poet is unknown. Book Twelve, titled the second part of "Love Poems Exchanged Old and New," gathers love poems by people whose names have not come down to us, arranged by category.
Line one, "Kasuga naru," means "at Kasuga."
Line two, "Mikasa no yama ni," means "on Mount Mikasa" in Nara, which also appears in poem 3066 in this book.
Line three, "iru kumo o," means "the clouds resting there."
Line four, "idemiru goto ni," means "every time I go out and look."
Line five, "kimi o shi zo omou," means "it is you I think of," the same final line as poems 2952 and 3089 in this book.
