English Translation
Your dear wife
and your children too
must be waiting eagerly,
you whom they await, and yet
have you vanished behind the isle
Meaning
Your beloved wife and children must be waiting eagerly for you; yet have you now vanished, hidden away on this island?
Commentary
Book Fifteen Poems of the Envoys to Silla 3692

Headnote: "Two envoys"
An elegy lamenting that though his beloved wife and children must be waiting eagerly, Yakamaro has vanished behind the island. Death is expressed as "shimagakuru," likening it to a ship disappearing behind an island. By picturing the waiting family, the pity of his death is made all the more intense.
The author, Fujii no Kooyu, also written Fujii no Muraji Kooyu, was a member of the embassy to Silla, but nothing further is known of his rank or office.
This is one of two envoys attached to the untitled chōka 3691 of this book, likewise an elegy mourning Yuki no Muraji Yakamaro, who died on the island of Iki. A left note reads "the above three are elegies composed by Fujii no Muraji Kooyu."

First line, "hashikeyashi": an expression meaning dear, how beloved, modifying wife and children in the second line.
Second line, "tsuma mo kodomo mo": the family awaiting Yakamaro's return.
Third line, "takadaka ni": standing on tiptoe in expectation, waiting eagerly from moment to moment.
Fourth line, "matsuramu kimi ya": "ramu" conjectures a present matter out of sight: you whom they must be awaiting. "Ya" is an interrogative binding particle resolved by the attributive "nuru."
Fifth line, "shimagakurenuru": "shimagakuru" means to vanish behind an island, here dying and being buried on the island. "Nuru" is the attributive of the perfective, answering "ya" in the fourth line.
