this love of mine for you!

Book Sixteen Poems with Tales of Origin and Miscellaneous Poems 3848
Headnote: "A poem composed in a dream; one poem."
The poet laments that, like rice from new fields stored in the granary until it grows stale, his love has withered after long years. Using farming words to describe a love grown old, it is a love poem with a touch of humor.
According to the left note, Imbe no Obito Kuromaro composed this love poem in a dream and gave it to a friend; on waking he recited it and found it just as it had been in the dream. It carries the curious tale of a poem made in a dream that survived waking unchanged.
Imbe no Kuromaro was an official bearing the title Obito; he is said to have later been granted the title Muraji and to have served as an assistant in the Secretariat.
First line, "araki ta no," means "of newly broken fields."
Second line, "shishida no ine o," means "the rice of fields raided by boar and deer."
Third line, "kura ni agete," means "storing it in the granary." Hypermetric at six syllables, the first three lines form a preface leading into hinebineshi in the fourth line.
Fourth line, "ana hinebineshi," means "ah, how stale and old." Since stored old rice is called hine, the image shifts to a love grown stale.
Final line, "aga kouraku wa," means "my loving." Kouraku is the nominalized form of kou, and through inversion it names, at the end, what the fourth line laments.
