Yukikaeri kite mo kikanan ausaka no seki ni kawareru hito mo ari ya to

English Translation
Go and come back home,
and then ask, I'd have you do,
at Ausaka,
whether at the barrier
someone's truly taken your place
Meaning
Go and come back if you must, but ask and see for yourself whether there is anyone at the Ausaka barrier who has truly taken your place.
Commentary
Book Thirteen Love Poems V 983

Headnote: "The woman sent again."
The poet asks him to go and come back, if need be, and ask whether there is anyone at the Ausaka barrier who has truly taken his place. To his claim that the barrier guard has been replaced, she denies having any new lover and begs him to return and see for himself.
According to the headnote, the woman sent this again after his reply. Taking up "aratamaru" in the preceding poem as "kawareru," the exchange around the Ausaka barrier continues.
The poet is listed as anonymous, and the composer's name has not come down to us.
The second line of the main text reads "kite mo kikanan," which does not match "kite mo kinakamu" in the reading line. Here the main text is followed.

The first line, "Yukikaeri," means "going and coming back," his return from the East.
The second line, "kite mo kikanan," means "come and ask, I wish," with "nan," a form of "namu," a final particle of desire directed at another. The poem pauses here, inverted with what follows.
The third line, "ausaka no," means "of Ausaka," the same word as in the two preceding poems.
The fourth line, "seki ni kawareru," means "who has taken a place at the barrier," taking up "aratamaru" in the preceding poem. "Ru" is the attributive of the continuative auxiliary "ri."
The last line, "hito mo ari ya to," means "whether there is anyone," with "ya" an interrogative binding particle.
