Izuko ni mo saki wa surame do waga yado no yamatonadeshiko tare ni misemashi

English Translation
Though they may bloom
in any place, it may be,
these from my own house,
these pinks of Yamato,
to whom now shall I show them?
Meaning
They may bloom anywhere, but the Yamato pinks of my own house, now that they have been cut away, to whom shall I show them?
Commentary
Book Two Summer Poems 132

Headnote: "When someone had the pinks blooming at my house cut and taken away"
Pinks may bloom everywhere, but now that the ones blooming at her house have been cut and taken away, the poet laments that she has no one to show them to. The loneliness of losing a cherished flower is expressed by asking to whom she might show them. According to the headnote, it was composed when someone had the pinks blooming at her house cut and carried off.
Ise was a woman poet of the early to mid-Heian period and a daughter of Fujiwara no Tsugukage. She served Onshi, consort of Emperor Uda, and became the mother of Nakatsukasa. She is counted among the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets.

First line, "izuko ni mo," means "anywhere."
Second line, "saki wa surame do," means "though they may well bloom," with "rame," the realis form of the present conjectural "ramu," and the concessive particle "do."
Third line, "waga yado no," means "of my house," contrasting flowers found anywhere with the flowers of one's own house. "Waga yado no" also appears in 80 and 84 of this book, sharing the spirit of praising the flowers at one's own home.
Fourth line, "yamatonadeshiko," refers to the native Japanese pink. "Nadeshiko" was associated with "nadeshi ko," a beloved child, and the flower was likened to one.
Final line, "tare ni misemashi," means "to whom should I show them," with "mashi" as an auxiliary expressing hesitation.
