Headnote: "When Provisional Middle Counselor Atsutada held a celebration for his mother"
The poet says that even ten thousand ages of long life would not be enough, since the heart that thinks of the honoree knows no bounds. With a depth of feeling beyond the conventional ten thousand ages, he joins in the son's reverence for his mother. According to the headnote, it was composed when Provisional Middle Counselor Fujiwara no Atsutada held a celebration for his mother. Atsutada was a son of Fujiwara no Tokihira.
Minamoto no Kintada, written with the title Ason, was a son of Minamoto no Kuniki, a son of Emperor Kōkō, and rose to Major Controller of the Right. He served close to Emperor Daigo and is counted among the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets.

First line, "yorozuyo mo," means "even ten thousand ages."
Second line, "nao koso akane," means "still would not satisfy," with "koso" resolved by "ne," the perfective form of the negative auxiliary "zu." The poem pauses here. Like "hodo mo akaneba" in 277 of this book, it sings of a heart not content with the conventional measure of long life.
Third line, "kimi ga tame," means "for your sake."
Fourth line, "omou kokoro no," means "of the heart that thinks." The next poem, 284, places the same "omou kokoro no" in its fourth line.
Final line, "kagiri nakereba," means "since it has no limit," giving the reason afterward by inversion. It also echoes "kagiri naki mi" in 270 of this book.
