Headnote: "To a person who set out on a journey around the Tenth Month"
The poet laments that the very person he had cherished so much he would not let even the dew touch has set out on a journey in the season of cold early-winter showers. Contrasting the faint dew with the falling showers, the poem conveys the pain of sending one long protected onto a harsh road. According to the headnote, it was sent to a person who set out on a journey around the Tenth Month.
The author, written as Tadami in kana, is Mibu no Tadami. A son of Mibu no Tadamine, he is known for the love poem with which he competed against Taira no Kanemori at the palace poetry contest of the fourth year of Tentoku, and he is counted among the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets.

First line, "tsuyu ni dani," means "not even to the dew," with "dani" an adverbial particle that names a slight thing to suggest a heavier one.
Second line, "ateji to omoishi," means "whom I had thought not to expose," with "ji" an auxiliary of negative intention.
Third line, "hito shimo zo," means "that very person, of all people," strengthened by "shimo" and the particle "zo." Like "aki shimo" in 308 of this book, it laments a parting that comes at the worst of times.
Fourth line, "shigure furu koro," means "in the season when cold showers fall," a scene of early winter. Following the Long Month of the preceding poem, the season moves to winter.
Final line, "tabi ni yukikeru," means "has gone on a journey," with "zo" resolved by the attributive "keru."
