where the robbers rise, I've strayed,

Book Nine Miscellaneous Poems II 560
Headnote: "For a paper painting in the house of Lord Rengi, at the place depicting a traveler who has met with robbers"
The poet says that having entered Mount Tatsuta, where robbers rise, he wonders whether, wearing the same sprays as they, he will be stained with the robbers' name. The headnote shows it was written for a paper painting in the house of Lord Rengi, Fujiwara no Yoritada, at a scene of a traveler meeting robbers. Pivoting on the place name Tatsuta and robbers who "rise up," it takes the part of the traveler who has entered Mount Tatsuta, known as a haunt of bandits, and fears bearing the same name as the robbers. The next poem, 561, was also written for the same painting.
The author, Fujiwara no Tamenobu, is a person of whom little is known. Lord Rengi is Fujiwara no Yoritada, a son of Fujiwara no Saneyori.
First line, "nusubito no," means "robbers," modifying "tatsu" in the second line.
Second line, "Tatsuta no yama ni," is a pivot word: "Tatsuta" means robbers "rising up" and the place name Tatsuta. The second line of the next poem, 561, "Tatsuta no yama no," likewise pivots on "rise" and Tatsuta.
Third line, "irinikeri," means "I have entered," with "ni" perfective and "keri" exclamatory. The poem breaks after this third line.
Fourth line, "onaji kazashi no," means "wearing the same sprays," speaking of one who wears the flowers or branches of the same mountain, that is, being of the robbers' company.
Final line, "na ni ya kegaren," means "will I be stained by the name," with the binding particle "ya" resolved by the attributive form of the conjectural auxiliary "n."
