not consoled though we have met,

Book Twelve Love Poems II 713
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
The poem says that the poet's love is not consoled even by meeting, and only feels as if it grows ever greater. Taking up 711, which said the poet had thought meeting would bring comfort, it states flatly that meeting brings no comfort after all, carrying the sequence's thought further.
First line, "waga koi wa," means "my love."
Second line, "nao aimite mo," means "even having met, still," sharing the same words with the first line of the preceding poem, 712, "aimite mo." The first and second lines of 716 in this book, "aimite mo nao," use the same words in reverse order.
Third line, "nagusamazu," means "is not consoled," answering "nagusamu ya" in the second line of 711. The poem breaks after this third line.
Fourth line, "iyamasari naru," means "growing ever greater," with "iya" adding the sense of "more and more."
Final line, "kokochi nomi shite," means "I only feel," trailing off to leave a lingering mood.
