Book Fifteen Love Poems V 927
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
The poem says: rely now on this life I am about to cast away, for our meeting is not to be in this world. From the despair of a love that cannot be fulfilled in this life, it pins its hope on a meeting in the next world after life is thrown away, a heart driven to the edge.
From the next poem, 928, through 934, poems that look upon life, death, and the world continue, and this poem stands at their beginning.
First line, "sutehatemu," means "which I shall cast away entirely," with "mu" expressing intention.
Second line, "inochi o ima wa," means "this life, now."
Third line, "tanomare yo," means "rely upon it," calling to the other in the imperative. The poem breaks here.
Fourth line, "aubeki koto no," means "our being able to meet."
Final line, "kono yo naraneba," means "since it is not in this world." The lower verse gives the reason for the request in the third line, looking toward a meeting in the next world.
