Headnote: "Topic unknown"
The poet says he will reap and store the rice of the paddy his beloved planted, wetting her red skirts, and ends with Kuranashi Beach, whose name means there is no storehouse to keep it. Singing of the work that runs from planting to harvest, it plays on the place name "Kuranashi" by sounding "a storehouse to store it" within it.
From here through 1125, poems on rice follow one another.
The author, written as "Hitomaro," is Kakinomoto no Hitomaro, the foremost poet of the Man'yōshū, revered in later ages as the saint of poetry. He is counted among the Thirty-Six Immortal Poets. The Shūishū includes many poems from the Man'yōshū and the Hitomaro Collection under his name.

First line, "wagimoko ga," means "my beloved."
Second line, "akamo nurashite," means "wetting her red skirts," depicting rice planting.
Third line, "ueshi ta o," means "the paddy she planted," with "shi" the attributive form of the past auxiliary "ki."
Fourth line, "karite osamemu," means "I will reap and store it," with "mu" an auxiliary of intention. It stands beside the second line of the next poem, 1124, "karitsuru ine wa," and the first line of 1125, "karite hosu," in singing of the rice harvest.
Final line, "Kuranashi no hama," means "Kuranashi Beach," drawing "kura," storehouse, from "osamemu" in the fourth line and turning it into a place name meaning there is no storehouse. The poem closes on a noun.
