Book One Spring Poems I 75
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Composed as a poem on blossoms when I held a poetry contest"
Composed on "blossoms" for the same contest as the preceding poem, this one says that the poet longs to show others the full bloom of the cherries along the linked peaks of Mount Nagara in Ōmi. Emotion at cherries too splendid to enjoy alone is expressed as a wish to share them.
The author, "Fujiwara no Noritsuna," was a poet of the late Heian period.
First line, "sazanami ya": a pillow word introducing Shiga and other place names in Ōmi, the same first line as 66 and 67 in this book.
Second line, "Nagara no yama no": Mount Nagara is a poetic place in Ōmi, the mountain sung in 66 through the pivot "mukashi nagara."
Third line, "minetsuzuki": "a line of linked peaks."
Fourth line, "misebaya hito ni": "baya" expresses the speaker's own wish, "how I would like to show them," and the poem pauses here.
Fifth line, "hana no sakari o": the object of "mise" placed after it by inversion, revealing that what the poet wishes to show is the cherries in full bloom.
