Yorozuyo mo sumu beki yado ni uetsureba matsu koso kimi ga kage o tanomame

English Translation
Since it has been planted
at a dwelling that shall stand
for ten thousand ages,
it is the pine that will rely
upon the shelter of my lord
Meaning
Since it has been planted at a dwelling where you will live for ten thousand ages, it is rather the pine that will come to rely on your sheltering shade.
Commentary
Book Ten Poems of Celebration 629

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Composed on the topic 'Facing the Pine, Vying in Years' at the first gathering at the Kan'in residence"
Composed at the same gathering as the preceding poem. Since it was planted at a dwelling where one will live for ten thousand ages, he says, it is the pine that will rely on my lord's shade. Reversing the usual idea of people relying on the shade of the pine, he has the pine rely on the master's shelter, answering the topic "Facing the pine, vying in years" by declaring that the master's life will surpass even the pine's thousand years, and so celebrates his long life.
The author, "Minamoto no Michiyoshi Ason," was an official and poet of the late Heian period. Little is known of his career.
This is the second poem in the sequence. Where the preceding poem, 628, regarded the pine as a friend, this poem has the pine rely on my lord's shade, answering by reversing their positions.

First line, "yorozuyo mo": "even for ten thousand ages." It answers "yorozuyo made no" in the fourth line of the preceding poem.
Second line, "sumu beki yado ni": "beki" is the attributive of the conjectural "beshi," "at a dwelling where one will surely live."
Third line, "uetsureba": "tsure" is the perfective of the completive "tsu," and with "ba" it means "since it has been planted."
Fourth line, "matsu koso kimi ga": the emphatic "koso" closes with the perfective "me" in the last line. Not the person but the pine, the poem says, reversing their positions.
Fifth line, "kage o tanomame": "kage" means protection, and "me," the perfective of the conjectural "mu," closes the "koso" of the fourth line. It is the reverse of 625 of this book, which relies on the shade of the pine.
