From now on, I'll tell
those who wish to see the blooms,
leave this word with them:
flee the world and all its ways,
and go dwell among the hills.
Meaning
From now on I will leave this word for those who would view the blossoms: forsake the world, and go live in the mountains.
Commentary
Spring Poems 86

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "When composing many poems on cherry blossoms"
The poet resolves to tell those who will come to see the blossoms in future that if they truly wish to savor the flowers, they should forsake the world and live in the mountains.
It carries the felt experience of one who left the world, that only by abandoning society and living in the mountains could he view the blossoms to his heart's content. As the close of the twenty-five cherry poems, it rounds off the sequence by teaching a way of life for those who love the flowers.

First line, “ima yori wa”: from now on.
Second line, “hana min hito ni”: to those who would see the blossoms.
Third line, “tsutaeokan”: n expresses intention, I will pass this on, with a break after the third line.
Fourth line, “yo o nogaretsutsu”: fleeing the world, meaning taking vows or withdrawing into seclusion.
Fifth line, “yama ni sumae to”: live in the mountains, giving in inverted order the content of the message.
