Aware shiru hito mitaraba to omou kana tabine no toko ni yadoru tsukikage

English Translation
If someone who knows
the sorrow of things saw this,
so I find I think,
the moonlight that comes to lodge
on the bed where I sleep on my way.
Meaning
If only someone who understands the beauty of things could see it, I think: the moonlight lodging on the bed where I sleep on my journey.

Headnote: "The moon at a travel lodging"
The topic is the moon seen at a lodging on a journey. Seeing the moonlight shining in even on the bed where he sleeps on his journey, the poet thinks how deeply someone who understands the aware of things would be moved to see it. He longs to share with a person of feeling the beauty of the moon he sees alone on the road.
It echoes 369, which wished for someone to watch the moon side by side, and here too, under the sky of the journey, a heart seeking someone with whom to share the moon is sung. Three poems on the same topic follow from here.

First line, “aware shiru”: knowing the aware of things, modifying hito in the second line.
Second line, “hito mitaraba to”: if such a person were to see it, a supposition.
Third line, “omou kana”: kana is exclamatory, how I think; the poem breaks after the third line.
Fourth line, “tabine no toko ni”: on the bed where I sleep on my journey.
Fifth line, “yadoru tsukikage”: ending on a noun, the moonlight shining on the travel bed, the object of the thought given afterward by inversion.
