Headnote: "Hearing wild geese in the morning"
The topic is hearing wild geese in the morning. At daybreak, when the clouds trailing across the dawn sky are blown by the wind and part from the peaks, the cries of the first geese are heard as they fly over the mountains. The moving clouds of the dawn sky are paired with the geese crossing the mountains.
After the first geese heard aboard a boat in the preceding poem, this one sings of the first geese heard at dawn in the mountains, so the cries of the first geese are sung at sea and in the hills. The closing hatsukari no koe is also the same as in the preceding poem.

First line, “yokogumo no”: of the clouds trailing across the dawn sky.
Second line, “kaze ni wakaruru”: parting from the peaks blown by the wind.
Third line, “shinonome ni”: at daybreak.
Fourth line, “yama tobikoyuru”: flying over the mountains.
Fifth line, “hatsukari no koe”: ending on a noun, with the same last line as the preceding poem.
