Omokage no wasuraru majiki wakare kana nagori o hito no tsuki ni todomete

English Translation
Your face, that image
I shall never be able to forget,
such a parting this!
for all the traces of you
you have left within the moon.
Meaning
Such a parting, one whose image I could never forget, for you have left all the traces of yourself in the moon.
Commentary
Love Poems 621

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "The moon"
Because the one who left has left the traces of her presence in the moon, her image rises every time the poet looks at it, and this is a parting he can never forget. The pain of remembering her at every sight of the moon is entrusted to the moonlight the two of them saw together.
It was included in the third book of love poems of the Shinkokinshū.

First line, “omokage no”: omokage is the image of someone absent rising in the heart.
Second line, “wasuraru majiki”: ru is potential and majiki negative conjecture: it seems impossible to forget.
Third line, “wakare kana”: kana is exclamatory; the poem breaks after the third line.
Fourth line, “nagori o hito no”: nagori is what lingers after parting, the trace and memory.
Fifth line, “tsuki ni todomete”: leaving it in the moon, an inversion giving the reason for the upper verse and answering the topic.
