she entered it, and so she went,

I wonder how it truly is.

Headnote: "Reply"
This is Jakuzen's reply. My sister entered the Way that gives hope and passed on, yet when I pinch myself and measure by my own heart, I wonder whether she truly attained rebirth, he says. He answers 'tanomoshikaranu' with 'tanomoshiki,' worrying over his sister's fate in the light of the uncertainty of his own practice.
First line, “tanomoshiki”: taking up 'tanomoshikaranu' in the fourth line of the preceding poem.
Second line, “michi ni wa irite”: having entered the Way, answering 'michi ni irade.'
Third line, “yukishikado”: though she passed on.
Fourth line, “waga mi o tsumeba”: pinching oneself to know another's pain, measuring by oneself.
Fifth line, “ikaga to zo omou”: zo is answered by the attributive omou; I wonder how it is.
