Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "From among the many poems on impermanence that I composed"
When I vanish like dew, take me to Rendaino and leave me there; in the name of that place I will show my longing for rebirth in paradise, the poet says. Rendaino was a burial ground north of the capital, and its name, rendai, is the lotus pedestal on which the reborn sit in paradise. Entrusting his wish to the place name, he closes the sequence of poems on impermanence.
First line, “tsuyu to kieba”: if I vanish like dew, if I die; a line of six syllables.
Second line, “Rendaino ni o”: Rendaino, the burial ground; rendai is the lotus pedestal of paradise.
Third line, “okuri oke”: an imperative, take me and leave me; oku, to leave, is related to the dew of the first line; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “negau kokoro o”: the heart that longs for rebirth in paradise.
Fifth line, “na ni arawasan”: n expresses intention, I will show it in the name.
