Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
Making its way through the trees on the peak where the storm blows over, the moonlight comes to dwell in the clear water of the valley, the poet says, tracing the moonlight's descent from peak to valley in a contrast of high and low.
It echoes 'mine no konoma o wakuru tsukikage' in 754, both singing of moonlight that parts the trees on the peak to reach the valley.
First line, “arashi kosu”: over which the storm blows.
Second line, “mine no konoma o”: between the trees on the peak.
Third line, “wakekitsutsu”: making its way.
Fourth line, “tani no shimizu ni”: in the clear water of the valley, set low against the peak of the second line.
Fifth line, “yadoru tsukikage”: ending on a noun, the moonlight reflected in the water.
