Spring is still young, the wind blows chill against the bamboo fences, and the snow has not melted in the village of Shigaraki, the poet says, picturing the cold early spring of a mountain village in Ōmi. From here many poems on place names and local scenes follow.

Second line, “suzu no magaki ni”: suzu is slender bamboo, magaki a fence of bamboo or brushwood.
Third line, “kaze saete”: sayu is to be chill.
Fourth line, “mada yuki kienu”: where the snow has not melted.
Fifth line, “Shigaraki no sato”: ending on a noun, the mountain village of Shigaraki in Ōmi.
