Once again, once more,
the mountain path grows dim and
dark within the haze,
though I set out to seek spring
at the dawn among the blossoms.

Once again the mountain path grows dim in the haze, though I set out at dawn among the blossoms in search of spring.

Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
Though I set out at dawn among the blossoms in search of spring, the mountain path grows dim once again in the haze, the poet says, portraying the heart that ventures deep into the mountains for the blossoms and the path closing in with haze.

First line, “sara ni mata”: once again.
Second line, “kasumi ni kururu”: growing dark in the haze.
Third line, “yamaji kana”: kana is exclamatory; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “haru o tazunuru”: seeking spring, the search for blossoms.
Fifth line, “hana no akebono”: ending on a noun, dawn among the blossoms, set against the darkening of the second line.
