Miscellaneous Poems 1006
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
Boat, do not make the crossing from Asazuma this morning; snow seems to be whirling on the peak of Ibuki, the poet says. Following the preceding poem with Asazuma and Ibuki again, he would stop the boat from setting out, fearing the snowstorm. Kurebune in the first line is of uncertain meaning, but it is a call to the boat.
First line, “kurebune yo”: of uncertain meaning, a call to the boat.
Second line, “Asazuma watari”: the crossing at Asazuma, taking up 'Asazumabune.'
Third line, “kesa na se so”: na ... so is prohibitive, do not do it this morning; asa and kesa echo each other; the poem breaks here.
Fourth line, “Ibuki no take ni”: on the peak of Ibuki, taking up 'Ibukioroshi.'
Fifth line, “yuki shimaku meri”: shimaku is to rage, and meri marks inference; the snow seems to be raging.
