Miscellaneous Poems 1012
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
Have the companions in the band returning in the morning already crossed Hara no Okayama? the poet asks. Kariiunako in the second line and Hara no Okayama in the fourth are of uncertain meaning and location, but the poem seems to think of a band going home together at dawn.
First line, “asa kaeru”: returning in the morning.
Second line, “kariiunako no”: of uncertain meaning.
Third line, “muratomo wa”: the companions in a band.
Fourth line, “Hara no Okayama”: the name of a hill whose location is uncertain.
Fifth line, “koe ya shinuran”: ya is answered by ran; have they crossed it?
