Miscellaneous Poems 1025
Headnote continued from the preceding poem: "Topic unknown"
How sad is the heart that sinks with the ebbing tide, the poet says. Tōchi sasu in the first line and hita in the second are of uncertain meaning, but the poem seems to lay his sinking heart over a tide ebbing across a broad expanse of water like a tidal flat.
First line, “tōchi sasu”: of uncertain meaning.
Second line, “hita no omote ni”: of uncertain meaning, apparently the face of a tidal flat.
Third line, “hiku shio ni”: with the ebbing tide.
Fourth line, “shizumu kokoro zo”: the sinking heart; zo is answered by keru in the fifth line.
Fifth line, “kanashikarikeru”: how sad it is.
